The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards went off without any major notable issues last night. There was a teleprompter glitch, a microphone mishap, and a few tasteless, but expected, jokes from Ricky Gervais. However, the show was totally run of the mill as far as these things go.
While last night’s event won’t go down in history as the most memorable of all Golden Globes, it wasn’t without its charm.
Here is my list of the Top 5 Golden Globes Moments of 2012:
5) The dazzling array of dresses making their way across the red carpet- This year seemed to bring out some of the best that fashion has to offer! My pick of the night would have to be Reese Witherspoon who looked ravishing in her strapless red Zac Posen gown.
When the dresses make it to a “top moments” list, that really doesn’t say much for the show itself!
I’m hoping for much more from the Academy Awards!
4) Ricky Gervais, who seemed to reign his quips in this year, had some great jabs for actors present and those not in attendance.
Taking the liberty to highlight Eddie Murphy’s refusal to host this year’s Oscars, Gervais said, “Who needs the Oscars? Not me and not Eddie Murphy. He walked out on ‘em. He said no and good for him. But when the man who said yes to Norbit says no to you, you know you’re in trouble.”
Ouch, that one stung!
3) Octavia Spencer mentioning Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in her acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Help.
“I think Dr. King said it best: all labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance, and I thank you for recognizing that with our film,” she said. Very fitting for the occasion!
2) The ever talented Morgan Freeman accepting the Cecil B. De Mille Award from Sir Sidney Poitier. Enough said…
1) I loved Michelle William’s acceptance speech for her Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy win. The star of My Week with Marilyn seemed extremely thrilled and very sincere when she thanked her six year old daughter Matilda, “I consider myself a mother first and an actress second, and so the person I most want to thank is my daughter, my little girl, whose bravery and exuberance is the example that I take with me in my work and in my life.”
She also made mention that 52 years previously Marilyn Monroe herself accepted the very same award. Thought that was a nice touch!
What were your favorite moments from this year’s show? Chime in, I’d love to hear from you!
